Inter-Tribal Court of Appeals to Hear Case at Law School, April 13

The Northern Plains Inter-Tribal Court of Appeals, a consortia court that hears appeals from 7 different Indian tribes in the states of North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, will be entertaining oral arguments on April 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Baker Courtroom, UND School of Law.

The case, Tex Hall v. Three Affiliated Tribes Business Council and Election Board, is an appeal from the Fort Berthold District Court for the Three Affiliated Tribes.

The case involves an appeal by the former Chairman of the Tribe and President of the National Congress of American Indians from the lower court's denial of an election challenge to the results of the Tribe's general election.

Hall contends the election was tainted by improper electioneering tactics. The lower court disagreed with this argument and found the Court had no authority to overturn the election results, because only the Tribal Council had that authority.

The argument is being hosted by the Native American Law Students Association and the Northern Plains Indian Law Center.

Public is invited.
