Program Summary

The Certificate in U.S. Air Transportation Policy (School of Law) is designed to prepare students for law practice, in or related to, the aerospace industry. The program is designed to create legal professionals with a working knowledge of the field of aviation, a necessary foundation for effective law practice in the industry and for guiding sound policymaking in the transportation and national security sectors.

Through the School of Law, the U.S. Air Transportation Policy Certificate Program is open to all School of Law students who have completed the first-year curriculum and are in good academic standing. Law students currently enrolled and in good standing in other ABA-accredited law schools may complete the program as full-time visiting second- or third-year students at the School of Law.

For School of Law students, the U.S. Air Transportation Policy Certificate Program requires successful completion of 9 credits of graduate aviation courses along with successful completion of the J.D. program. The certificate will be awarded to School of Law students simultaneously with the J.D. degree and will be reflected on the student's law school transcript.

For full-time visiting students at the School of Law, the U.S. Air Transportation Policy Certificate Program requires successful completion of 9 credits of graduate aviation courses, along with successful completion of Administrative Law (either at the School of Law during the visiting year or at the student's home school prior to the visiting year). The certificate will be awarded at the end of the visiting year and will be reflected on the School of Law transcript for the visiting year.

The successful completion of the required 9 credits of graduate aviation courses will be counted toward the minimum credit hours required for the J.D. degree and as courses involving attendance at regularly scheduled class sessions at the School of Law under the School of Law's General Academic Requirements and Regulations policy. Students may wish to take additional aviation courses beyond those required for the certificate program; students should note that these additional aviation courses will not count toward the minimum credit hours required for the J.D. degree and may require permission of the instructor and/or admission to the Graduate School. Finally, the tuition cost for the 9 credits of graduate aviation courses is non-waiveable.
