Jo L. Bullis, Class of 1983, Wins "Women in the Law" Award
Michigan Lawyers Weekly recently honored Jo L. Bullis, UND Law Class of 1983, with its
"Women in the Law" award.
Bullis currently serves as Executive Director of Women’s Resource Center in Traverse City, Michigan. She was honored for her nearly three decades of service in the field of domestic violence. Most notable was her effort to establish and enhance relationships with other community organizations that work with domestic and sexual violence survivors. Those relationships have led to specialized investigation and prosecution of cases, the creation of domestic violence courts, enhanced supervision of offenders, a supervised parenting and custody exchange program, and a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) program.
In addition, Bullis was praised for her part in establishing a partnership with Legal Services of Northern Michigan, the Family Court, the local bar and legal professionals, and the Women Lawyers Association to host free legal clinics.
The award, which is in its inaugural year, was presented in a special ceremony in Detroit, Michigan recognizing the contributions of 20 leading women attorneys across the state.
