Investiture ceremonies held for Hastings
Shon Hastings, UND Law Class of 1993, participated in her investiture ceremonies as a U.S. bankruptcy judge Friday at the Quentin N. Burdick Federal Courthouse in downtown Fargo.
During the investiture ceremonies, former colleagues of Hastings, such as U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon and Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley, told stories of her loyalty, objectiveness and dedication to fairness throughout her career as an attorney.
Hastings will replace U.S. Bankruptcy Judge William Hill as the sole North Dakota bankruptcy judge. Hastings – a Hazen, N.D., native – who has been recognized nationally for her work in financial law, said she loves bankruptcy court because it stands for a fresh start or second chance. Hastings said her successes have not come easily and would not have been possible if not for her own mentors giving her second chances.
