Noridian Administrative Services (NAS) President and CEO Mike Hamerlik has accepted the position of president and CEO of Wisconsin Physician Services (WPS) in Madison, Wis. Hamerlik and Noridian Mutual Insurance Company (NMIC) President and CEO Paul von Ebers made the announcement jointly today at all-employee meetings at Noridian offices in Fargo.
As part of the transition plan, NAS VP and Chief Administrative Officer Craig Campbell will service as interim CEO. Hamerlik's last day at NAS has not been determined, but a national search is already underway for his replacement.
WPS, a not-for-profit insurance company with 4,000 employees, also administers Medicare Part A and B for Jurisdiction 5, which consists of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska, as well as TRICARE.
Von Ebers said Hamerlik was recruited by WPS—a testament to the good work done by Noridian employees and the mark our company has made on the health care industry. "While we are sorry to see Mike leave the organization after 22 years, he clearly was presented with a significant opportunity, and we sincerely wish him the best," von Ebers said.
Hamerlik began work at Noridian in 1990 as executive vice president and was named the first CEO of NAS in 2002. Before working at Noridian, Hamerlik practiced law in Phoenix. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Hamerlik also served as a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1982 to 1988.
A subsidiary of Noridian Mutual Insurance Company, NAS is a regional claims contractor for the federal government's Medicare program and provides Part A, Part B and DME claims processing.
