Dean Kathryn Rand Thank You to SBAND

As many of you know, we received great news out of the 80th day of the legislative session. On Friday evening, just minutes before our graduation banquet, the state legislature voted to approve SB 2003, which includes nearly full funding for the School of Law's building project. The compromise coming out of the Conference Committee was to fund the construction projects included in the Governor's budget at 95%. That means the School of Law will receive $11.4 million toward our building project. There also will be a pool, funded by the 5% held back from the projects, to provide some additional modest funding if necessary.
We were delighted to be able to announce this breaking news at our Class of 2013 commencement events on Friday and Saturday. What a fantastic weekend for the School of Law!
We could not have accomplished this historic turning point for our School of Law without the help of many, many people. We owe a debt of gratitude to our alumni and friends in the bench and bar, the Governor's office, and the state legislature. In particular, we know that the tireless efforts of SBAND's leadership and membership over the course of this past year were critical to securing this much-needed state funding. We thank you for this incredible service to North Dakota's law school, and we are honored to share in this successful outcome not only for the School of Law, but also for the legal profession in our state.
On behalf of all of us at the School of Law, thank you for your support!
