Research Student: Grand Forks, ND. Assistant Professor Steven R. Morrison has been appointed by the Eight Circuit Court of Appeals to represent a man who was recently convicted of wire fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. sec. 1341, and sentenced to nearly 18 years in prison. He will be drafting his appeal, and is looking for a student to be a part of the defense team. The student would be involved in all aspects of the appeal, from reviewing the file for appealable issues, to researching the law, to drafting the brief, and, possibly, to arguing before the Eighth Circuit. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain practical legal experience and perform research and writing at a high level, whether you are interested in working in criminal law or another field. While payment is subject to the court's approval, this work would pay $25/hour, and starts immediately. Congressional Internships: Congress has a long history of offering Congressional internships to provide students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience with the legislative process. We are honored to welcome North Dakota students to join each of my Senate offices to take part in our internship program where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the federal government, legislative process, and the issues impacting our state and country. Young adults interning with our office can expect to work closely with staff members on a variety of projects, including communication, legislative, constituent, and administrative work. Interns frequently assist with researching issues and tracking legislation as well as helping constituents and, in Washington, serving as guides on Capitol tours. Interns working in Washington also have the chance to attend committee hearings and other Congressional meetings and events. Our office internship program offers three sessions: the Spring Session runs from January until May; the Summer Session runs from June through August; and the Fall Session runs from September through December. Fulltime and part-time internships are offered, and each intern receives a small stipend to help defray living expenses. Associate Director Professional & Career Development: Syracuse University College of Law seeks an Associate Director in the Office of Professional & Career Development to primarily counsel law students and alumni in professionalism and career planning. The associate director will develop materials and conduct programming to educate students and alumni on the job search process. The successful candidate will also be expected to fully engage with the College of Law and the University community while developing professional relationships with alumni, employers and other key constituencies. A special focus on judicial clerkships will be expected. Some travel is required. Candidates must have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree. A very strong preference is given to candidates with a JD who have practical legal experience. Experience in career counseling, higher education or attorney hiring is desirable. The successful candidate will have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional connections and develop relationships with students. Familiarity with technology and demonstrated planning, organization and time management skills are a must. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until April 9, 2012.
