Phi Alpha Delta Law School Chili Cook-Off
Query: Who makes the best chili in the UND School of Law?
We will soon find out as the Phi Alpha Delta Corliss Chapter hosts the annual Law School Chili Cook-Off on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Bright Reading Room. Tickets for the event will be sold in advance for $3 or at the door for $4. A ticket allows you the opportunity to sample all selections, have lunch and vote for your favorite chili.
Register by February 19th to be a contestant in this year's competition. All UND Law students, faculty, staff, student organizations, and alumni are eligible to compete. For those interested in entering the contest, registration forms are available in the Office of Student Life from Sheri Evans, or you can contact Evie Hudson at evie.hudson@my.und.edu or (701) 214-2341. There is no entrance fee and student organizations are encouraged to enter. Spots are limited to the first 20 entrants, so sign up today.
Phi Alpha Delta's mission encompasses service to the student, the profession, and the community. In the spirit of giving that P.A.D. endorses as an organization, fifty dollars will be donated to the charity of choice for the entrant who wins the crowd favorite!
Attendees are urged to bring their appetites, as there is always more than enough for everyone who attends. Participants are encouraged to bring their competitive spirit! Last year, we had nearly twenty entrants and eighty attendees, and every year this exciting event gets larger and hosts more people. Of course, the chili is always fantastic and awards are given for the "Judges' Best", "Crowd Favorite", "Best Traditional Chili", "Best Creative Chili", "Best Named Chili", and "Spiciest Entry". Vegetarian options are available and original recipes make it creative and fun! Last year's top winners were Dean Josh Fershee's Bayou Black Bean Chili, Tim Heise's Get All You Can Chili, and Jared Gietzen's Gietzen's Gut Buster Chili.
The Cook-Off was held in the past by various student organizations, but fell by the wayside for a few years. P.A.D. has brought it back and made it bigger and better! The event is held in the spring semester as part of an effort to connect students with the faculty and staff here at the School of Law.
