UND-BLSA Stephen Rice Book Scholarship
The Stephen Rice Book Scholarship awards a $500.00 scholarship to entering African-American law school students based upon three primary factors: demonstrated involvement in and commitment to serve the African-American community through the legal profession; professional achievement; and financial need. Through its scholarship program, Mr. Rice seeks to assist with financial barriers faced by entering African-American Students. This scholarship is administered by the Black Law Students Association. A three page double spaced essay demonstrating your commitment to the African-American community, professional achievements and any financial need is required.
Mr. Stephen Rice studied economics at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Following graduation from Morehouse, Mr. Rice studied accounting at the University of Texas at Austin prior to working as a financial consultant in New York City. After financial consulting, Mr. Rice joined the administration of Columbia University as Special Assistant to the Secretary of the University. Mr. Rice later join the senior staff of the Manhattan Borough President's Office (MBPO) Mr. Rice's last position with the MBPO was in the Budget and Policy Department as an Economic Development Policy Analyst. Where he focused areas were banking, women and minority owned businesses, fiscal policy and temporary assistance for needy families. Following his stint with the MBPO, Stephen received an MBA from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Rice then joined the executive staff of the Greater Baltimore Urban League as the Director of Economic Development Projects. Currently Mr. Rice is the Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Rice is also very active in numerous community and continuously serves on civic boards.
