Summer 2012 Public Interest Law Grants
Applications for 2012 Summer Public Interest Law Grants are now being accepted
Grant Application (Word doc) or (pdf fill-in form) -- Applications are due March 19, 2012.
Grant Informational Session - January 31, 12:15 - 1:10 p.m., Room 103
Students in their first or second years of law school are encouraged to consider summer job opportunities in public interest law. Because many of the organizations that engage in this type of work may be able to offer little or no compensation for summer law clerks, the School of Law has created a program that provides some funding.
The purpose of the Summer Public Interest Law Grants is to offset the expenses of students working in summer public interest law positions, in an effort to make public interest law a realistic career avenue for UND law students. This program provides students with the opportunity to make significant contributions to the public interest. The Public Interest Law Student Association (PILSA) is happy to have been involved in expanding the educational experience for students through this invaluable component of the law school program.
This is the sixth year in which the University of North Dakota School of Law has awarded Summer Public Interest Law Grants to students pursuing jobs in areas of public interest law. At the urging of student leaders from PILSA, the law school committed in 2007 to dedicate endowment moneys to fund this important initiative. The North Dakota Bar Foundation has continued to contribute annually toward the cost of this Grant program to encourage and support law students who take unpaid public interest law jobs during the summer.
