International Human Rights Organization
Welcome to the International Human Rights Organization!
The International Human Rights Organization’s (IHRO) mission is to increase awareness,
educate others, and actively work to decrease human rights violation in our community
and around the world. IHRO hosts many events throughout the school year including
documentary nights with guest speakers from topics that have ranged from human trafficking
to preventing sexual assault on campus to raising awareness about LGBTQA individuals
in Cameroon. IHRO has organized tours to the Community Violence Intervention Center
(CVIC) in Grand Forks to learn about the violence happening in our community in Grand
Forks and what the Center is doing to help survivors of domestic violence. IHRO has
partnered with Amnesty International with their “Write for Rights” campaign where
we encouraged fellow colleagues at the law school to take a minute to write a letter
to convince government officials in Turkey to release people imprisoned for expressing
their opinion, support human rights defenders, stop torture, commute death sentences,
and end other human rights abuses.
There are no fees to join IHRO and all currently enrolled students of UND are eligible
for membership, as are all faculty and staff at the University of North Dakota. Interested
members of the community are also welcome to join. Please like visit our Facebook page to keep up to date on organization events.
