Canadian Students
There are many benefits for Canadian students to consider when thinking of earning their law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law.
UND Law is seeing an increasing number of students from Canada in our student body, typically 30 students each year spread across the three classes.
UND Law Benefits
Internship and Externship Opportunities to Gain Practical Experience
A “practice ready” approach to the education is supported by a variety of internship and externship positions filled by UND Law students in North Dakota, across the United States and in Canada. We have unique connections for our students to the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, U.S. District Court and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Typically, the law school supports a total of nearly 130 student placements each year. Now students can start the work experience earlier. A recent ruling now allows law students to work under the supervision of a practicing attorney following completion of their first year of law school.
Discounted Tuition for Manitoba and Saskatchewan Residents & Diversity Scholarships
Residents of Manitoba receive a special tuition rate to attend UND Law which is less than a non-resident student from the United States. Canadian students area also eligible to be considered for the Diversity Tuition Waiver Program.
Support of our Canadian Student Law Society
The Canadian Law Student Society is a specialized student organization dedicated to uniting all law students interested in learning about law and legal developments in Canada, or those who have an interest in practicing law in Canada. Student members can receive assistance and resources for writing Canadian Law exams and articling opportunities. They provide resources for those wishing to stay in the United States post-graduation to practice law as well. The organization also organizes fun activities including the annual Cross Border Classic Hockey Tournament featuring teams from UND and University of Manitoba.
Strong and Ever-growing Network of Canadian Alumni
Many Canadian students who are graduates of the UND School of Law have remained in the United States post-graduation to practice law, while many others have returned to Canada. Our alumni network both locally and back in Canada is growing every year.
